Sally Yan, a 2 ½ year resident of our building (and Baltimore itself) originally from Lansing, MI, first came here in 2017 to study and perform research in a two-year Master of Science program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health. As a Research Assistant, Sally focused on healthy food availability and access in Baltimore’s healthy food priority areas (formerly known as “food deserts”).

Since her 2019 graduation, Sally works as a Project Manager of Data and Evaluation at the Family League of Baltimore, where she performs research and provides program evaluation support to school-age programs in Baltimore, primarily Community Schools and Out-of-School time (i.e., after school) programs.
Prior to coming to Baltimore, Sally served two years as a Child Hunger Corps Fellow with Feeding America, in Sioux Falls, SD, implementing and evaluating policies and programs which alleviate food insecurity among children and families. She also previously worked for the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as a global health assistant, performing an administrative support role to CDC personnel deployed during the Ebola outbreak of 2014, while attending Emory University in Atlanta, GA as an undergraduate.
As someone who counts hiking and running among her favorite outdoor activities, Sally found the Great Plains, the Badlands, and the Black Hills beautiful backdrops for these activities while working and living in South Dakota. Sally enjoys visiting national parks, and looks forward to visiting Death Valley National Park with her boyfriend Kevin in March.
What Sally loves most about her St. Paul at Chase apartment is the amazing view that she, Kevin, and their dog, Bohemian (“Bo” for short), enjoy of Baltimore from their unit. In her off-hours, Sally sometimes plays water polo with the Baltimore team, Charm City Water Polo. Sally’s favorite neighborhood activity is walking with Bo around Mt. Vernon’s Washington Monument Park (Mt. Vernon Place)—particularly in Springtime, with the magnolias in full bloom.
